Fabian Cancellara celebrated in the 111th edition of Paris-Roubaix. The Swiss rider of Radioshack-Leopard beat Sep Vanmarcke in a sprint on the Vélodrome of Roubaix. Niki Terpstra arrived 30 seconds later, and finished third.
At the beginning of the race four leaders with Gert Steegmans, Mathew Hayman, Stuart O’Grady and Clement Koretsky took a small gap. On the Trouée d’Arenberg Steegmans attacked and only Hayman could follow him. This two riders worked together and took a gap of one minute.
On the cobblestones of Mons en Pévèle Fabian Cancellara attacked the peloton. Just a small group joined him behind that cobble section and they rode to the leaders. Many riders attacked in the big front group, but only Stijn Vandenbergh and Sep Vanmarcke were able to take advantage.
On the next cobble section Cancellara attacked again. Now only cyclocross rider Zdenek Stybar could follow the biggest favourite to win the race. Cancellara and Stybar joined the two leaders and rode together to the most important cobble section of the day: Carrefour de l’Arbre.
In the first meters of le Carrefour Vandenbergh crashed. Also his team mate Zdenek Stybar lost contact with the leaders because of bad luck. So Vanmarcke and Cancellara were the only riders at the front of the race. They rode together to Roubaix. In the sprint Cancellara was a bit faster then Vanmarcke.
