By David Hunter Yiti – Ministry of Tourism 118km This is another of the organiser’s favourite stages, featuring heavily since the race began. At just 118km, it promises to be a very fast day.
By David Hunter Torredonjimeno – Alto Pena del Aguila 177.9km The second stage is the only hilltop finish in the race. It’s a huge day for the GC.
By David Hunter Lagoa – Alto de Foia 189.3km After a day for the sprinters, it’s time for the GC riders to have some fun.
By David Hunter Sultan Qaboos University – Quriyat 162km This is another stage for the climbers and tough puncheurs. Hopefully the organisers don’t change the finish at the last minute!
By David Hunter Nakhal – Al Bustan 145.5km After the sprinters had their fun in stage 1, it’s time for the GC boys to come out fighting.
By David Hunter Rincon de la Victoria – Granada 155.4km It might be the opening stage, but this is going to be crazy! With only two stages for the big climbers, this has to be a difficult day in the saddle.
By David Hunter Albufeira – Lagos 182.9km The race begins with a new sprint stage into Lagos.
By David Hunter After some solid racing in Valenciana, we up the level with Ruta del Sol. A certain Alejandro Valverde has won here 4 out of the last 5 years, can he make it 5 from 6? Route Stage 1
By David Hunter With races in Oman and Spain the organisers have stuck to a traditional route to entice back many riders that love this race. They seem to have been successful and have the usual mix of climbers, sprinters and classics specialists. This race does have something for everyone. Route Stage 1
By David Hunter Al Sawadi Beach – Naseem Park 176.5km The race begins with a day for the sprinters. This is an easy day in the saddle for the peloton, a nice start to the week.
By David Hunter After the sprinters had their fun in the Dubai Tour, it’s the turn of the climbers and classics specialists in Oman. Vincenzo Nibali won in 2016, but he’s not back to defend his title. With no Chris Froome either, it looks like we’ll get a new winner of the trophy. Route Stage 1
By David Hunter Paterna – Valencia 130.2km The final stage is no procession for the peloton. This is the same stage as 2016, where Stijn Vandenbergh managed to hold off the sprinters.
By David Hunter Segorbe – Lucena del Cid “Mas de la Costa” 180km It’s the big day for the GC.
By David Hunter Canals – Riba-Roja de Turia 161km After today’s fun, the stage is set for the sprinters.
By David Hunter Alicante – Denia 180.6km It was always going to be the problem with starting the race with a 38km TTT, we now have huge time gaps on GC. That is good news for some in the bunch, but it’s going to make chasing the early break tough on the sprinter teams.
By David Hunter Orihuela – Orihuela 37.9km TTT It’s very unusual that we are faced with a 38km TTT as the very first stage of a race in January. I’m sure the vast majority of the bunch are not looking forward to this.
By David Hunter This race returned to the pro peloton in 2016, there hadn’t been an edition since 2008. It was a welcome return, as many riders want to be here, an area they know well from winter training. Last year the weather was good, as was the racing. This year should be another cracker of…
By David Hunter After a spell in Australia, the pro peloton begin their gradual move back West. They arrive in Dubai for the 4th edition of the race. It’s a popular race with the riders as they get nice weather and a beautiful hotel to stay in. The organisers have taken the popular decision of extending…
