Tour de Suisse 2016 – Stage 4 Preview
By David Hunter Rheinfelden – Champagne 193km I will refrain some a silly joke about champagne! This is the last day for the sprinters, after this stage, we head to the mountains.
By David Hunter Rheinfelden – Champagne 193km I will refrain some a silly joke about champagne! This is the last day for the sprinters, after this stage, we head to the mountains.
By David Hunter Tain l’Hermitage – Belley 176km The last chance for the sprinters. Quite a boring day for the bunch.
By David Hunter Catanzaro – Praia a Mare 200km Bumpy! After the rest day, the peloton has relocated to the south of Italy.
By David Hunter Conthey – Villars 172.7km Well, that was a surprise! I thought he’d do well, but Pinot was outstanding. He really is showing everyone that it’s about time for him to move into the elite rider section.
By David Hunter Male – Cles 160.9km The final stage.
By David Hunter Baga – Port Aine 172.2km Easily one of the hardest stages of the season. Coming in March, this is a real test of climbing ability. The stage starts nice and easy, but the second half is brutal.
By David Hunter Montalto di Castro – Foligno 222km A long day in the saddle for the peloton, with plenty of climbing.
By David Hunter Julienas – Romans sur Isere 193.5km The road south continues.
By David Hunter Alhaurin de la Torre 21km After three stages where all the big guns were equal on time, today will start to shape the GC.
By David Hunter Al Zubarah Fort – Madinat Al Shamal 189km It’s the longest stage of the race, at 189km. That means the riders face a long, tense day in the saddle. The wind forecast is for light winds, coming from the south-west. The direction of the wind is perfect for echelons, but it does need…
By David Hunter Orihuela – Xorret del Cati 141.3km It’s been a big week of racing, with stages in Dubai and Spain. Forget about the rest, this is the best stage of the week. It might even be one of the best of the year. The reason? Xorret de Cati and 4km at 11%! Greg Henderson…
By David Hunter Dubai – Burj Khalifa 137km Time for the final stage and the GC is delicately balanced. After some brilliant performances by Lobato, Nizzolo and Kittel, it’s the Trek man that leads the way. He has a 2 second gap to Lobato and a 6 second gap to Kittel. With 10, 6 and 4…
By David Hunter Norwood – Victor Harbour 138km Stage 4 is another race to a familiar town. The race has finished many times in Victor Harbour, with a sprint finish just about guaranteed. Usually, the riders only have to concern themselves with the potential crosswinds. 2016 is a different vintage!
By David Hunter San Luis – Cerro del Amago 140km A huge day lies in front of the peloton. This is the day where the GC will be shaped. The Amago is one hell of a climb, 11km at 6.8%, with a maximum of 15.5%. What makes it even harder is the changing gradient. There isn’t…
By David Hunter Estepona – Vejer de la Frontera 209.6km The Vuelta usually likes to keep the stage short, but this one is much longer. At 209.6km, it’s the second longest stage of the race, but it should be relatively easy.
By David Hunter Hoogerheide – Hoogerheide 14km ITT The sprinters have had their fun, it’s time for the GC riders to shine. The riders tackle a nice loop circuit, and despite the profile, is flat. The first thing to look at is the weather.
By David Hunter Jaworzno – Nowy Sacz 220km At last, mountains! After 3 days for the sprinters, the fun starts. We have a cat 2 climb, before two cat 1 climbs. Once off the descent, it’s another circuit race, with 3 laps of 7.6km.
By David Hunter Seraing-Cambrai 223.5km First thing to note is the length of the stage. At 223.5km, it is getting close to Classic length. It’s not quite there, but this is going to take it out of the riders, especially after two crazy days.
