Volta ao Algarve 2015 – Stage 5 Preview
By David Hunter
Almodovar – Vilamoura 185km
With the GC settled, the riders can look forward to an easy final stage and a sprint finish. The stage is mostly downhill and everyone will be happy to let the sprinters fight it out for the win.
I’ll lay it on the line, if Andre Greipel doesn’t win this stage, I’ll eat my hat!
The German was poor on stage 1, suffering from a lack of kilometres in his legs. Greipel is so under cooked, the animal is still alive. The team told him he would race less, to save his legs for the big events, but I’m sure he’s frustrated. Greipel is a winner, anything but the top step is a failure. Tomorrow is his chance to set the record straight. He has two of his trusted lieutenants with him, in Sieberg and Roelandts, they will deliver him in the perfect position. Can Greipel finish it off?
He shouldn’t have too much competition, as he’s the only pure sprinter here. He’ll be up against Meersman and Swift, two men who would rather sprint after a difficult day. This isn’t the finish for them.
Also in the mix should be Alexander Porsev and Roy Jans, but still, these riders cannot match the speed of the Gorilla.
Prediction Time
Andre Greipel.
