Bobbie Traksel: “I´m too friendly for this sport”
By @pmpalermo
During the last Tour of Oman one cyclist was distinguished from the rest for it aggressive and brave kind of race that in fact was awarded with most aggressive rider t-shirt.
Bobbie Traksel is no stranger in the bunch but caught the attention of Ciclismo Internacional so we decided to contact him to know more about it.
Traksel, from Champion System Chinese team has its goals just around the corner, in the spring classics where he´s going to win if he keeps the level he showed in Oman.
Here we got some of his thoughts, goals, and qualities, in an interesting interview with a man who is going to be in cycling news for the next two months.
You were in the break every day in Omán…was Tour de Omán a main goal?you won the “most agressive rider” maillot..
For the team racing in Asia is always important, but for me was not a main goal, next week the start of the spring classics is a main goal for me. But of course we won the jersey and was very important for me and the team.
How`s your upcomming calendar and objectives?
After Omán I came back to europe for the spring races at the BeNeLux. Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Sunday’s Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne are next races.
Tell us about you…why you`re a classics rider?
I can handle bad weather conditions thats why i strong at the spring, and can handle the short Belgium climbs and have a strong sprint at a small groupes. I can’t handle warm weather conditions! But you can train that!
WIch is your weakness?
I’m too friendly for this sport.I always want to help people and not always think about my self and if you wanna be a big rider you need to think only about you self!
You`re 31…do you still got dreams in cycling?
Of course when you don’t have them you need to stop!I have a few races i will try to win! Nokere koerse is one of them!
Who`s your role model as a cyclist?
I really don’t have a role model. I don’t look the results but how the rider is as a person. I like Van Avermaet, Gilbert, Boonen and Kenny de Haes! Good guys on the bike and yes, also good bike riders.
You made great results thru your career…why you never stayed long in your teams?
I stayed 4 years in Rabobank, after that for 3 years with team manager Van der Schuren and than 3 years with Luyckx and after that I went to LandbouwKredit were I could stay but I loved the project from Champion System!Because I think it’s good for cycling when we have different cultures on the bike! And i can learn a lot from the asian guys!
Please…tell us about the Champion System proyect…
Champion System is our sponsor and is the biggest cycling clothing company of the world. As team we are the first ProContinetal team of China and we will try to find extra sponsors for the future and want to be the first Chinese team at the Tour du France.
