CX Gavere Women 2022 – Preview
By @EchelonsHub
The Course
This is a big weekend, the penultimate one of the season and the one where the Telenet Superprestige and the X2O Trofee cups will be finished. Superprestige comes first, and it will be in Gavere that it will be decided.
The scoring system here works that the first 1st rider across the line gets 15 points, whilst the 15th gets 1 point, and inbetween there is a 1-point gap between each rider. Lucinda Brand has 7 points of advantage over Denise Betsema and 8 over Annemarie Worst so her win should be safe as long as she stays out of trouble, whilst the other two fight for the remaining spot. But I believe the fight for the win will be more important and the thoughts of the cup will be secondary.
Although it won’t rain during the race, it is likely that the track will have some muddy sections due to recent rain, nothing too extreme though, but it will make for the first technical half of the track to be quite complicated. Very tight turns, short and steep ascents and a few off-camber sections make for a very draining start where it’s very easy to make mistakes and go ino the red. In the second half of the course the riders will find a climb which will span out for almost a minute making it the other crucial section of the course. The whole track is very grassy so it is prone to develop quite hard conditions throughout the day.

Recon of the track. Although not 100%, essentially all of the track remains the same.

The Favourites
A hard track. Honestly, I struggle to imagine someone other than Lucinda Brand taking this. The field is rather reduced, Annemarie Worst has been showing good legs but I don’t think she is at the level of the European champion, whilst Denise Betsema is still on the recovery from illness and didn’t look very good last week. A fight for the podium will be present for sure, but I expect Brand to go for the win either on the first or second lap.
Alongside the previously mentioned names for sure we can see Sanne Cant on a strong day as the route should suit her, and behind big gaps are expected. Hélène Clauzel, Manon Bakker and Zoe Backstedt are outsiders who will be looking to get an important place in the Top5 and for sure at least one of them will.
Prediction Time
1st– Lucinda Brand 2nd– Annemarie Worst 3rd– Denise Betsema 4th– Zoe Backstedt 5th– Sanne Cant
