CX Oostmalle Women 2022 – Preview

The Course
It is the final race of the cyclocross season, a big day to wrap off a big season. In Oostmalle the riders will find a track that will be raced in hard conditions as Belgium keeps suffering from the bad weather over the weekend. The track however won’t be overly affected by it though as it is a very sandy course and the rain will help build ruts and made the track a bit more solid.
Oostmalle is an incredibly technical course as you can tell by the map, but more so as a big portion of the track goes over sand, in some places quite shallow and meaningless, in others with deep ruts which include many corners. It won’t be a fast race, however it is one for those who makes less mistakes and string the sections together as well as possible.

The Favourites
It’s a final race and should the outcome be the same? Perhaps, judging how Lucinda Brand rode today it does not give the fel that she’s been suffering from fatigue, and will once again be the main favourite for tomorrow to wrap off the season with a blast.
To challenge her again the main rivals should be both Annemarie Worst and Denise Betsema, both need a great day in order to take a win however it is not an impossible task, they are the main favourites to wrap off the podium just as they have today.
As for the remaining spots of the Top5, they should be discussed between the likes of Sanne Cant, Manon Bakker, Marion Norbert Riberolle, Aniek van Alphen and Zoe Backstedt. Who will finish in front of who will depend on how they feel during the day, it will not be an easy affair, and technique will be crucial.
